There are times when you may need help to cope with your social, financial and medical needs. Talk to our Medical Social Workers (MSWs) if you need support in these areas:
Crisis Intervention
If you or someone in your family is experiencing any of the following crises:
- Domestic violence
- Elder or child abuse or neglect
- Depression with suicidal thoughts
- Attempted suicide
Please talk to a MSW immediately to work out a safety plan for you and your family members involved. The MSW will link you up with community support to help you overcome the crisis.
Care Planning and Support for Caregivers
While caregiving can be satisfying and meaningful, it can also be physically and emotionally draining.
Speak to an MSW to find out how to better manage your own care or the care of your family member. If necessary, the MSW will refer you to community-based services so that you or your family member can continue to be cared for at home, for as long as possible. If living at home is no longer a viable care option, you can also explore the option of residential care with the MSW.
Counselling Support
If you are facing difficulty coping with the impact of medical conditions, caregiver stress, family relationship problems or other life's stresses, the MSW can provide counselling support for you and your family members.
Financial Assistance
If you have financial difficulty and are unable to afford your basic daily living expenses, mobility aids, home care equipment or medical-related items, the MSW will assess your financial situation and make appropriate financial applications to help you.
Information and Referral
You may talk to the MSW to find out which community resources would be helpful to you. The MSW can link you to these organisations and assistance schemes if necessary.
